About Banya No.1
Banya No.1 is the first of its kind in the UK and brings Russia’s oldest and most popular wellness traditions to the capital. Being not your typical spa experience, it features authentic Russian steam room, plunge pool, hot stone and treatment rooms and a R & R area with traditional food & drinks. It’s social as well as private. The service is friendly and personal and Banya is open to both members and non-members. We offer a selection of wellness & spa treatments, with ingredients strictly natural and organic and prepared on the premises.
The key signature treatment is Parenie – an invigorating thermal massage, that uses leafy and fragrant bundle of birch, oak or eucalyptus twigs.
This process is quite intense and it’s not about slashing you with oak and birch leaves, but rather working the steam around you to warm you up so deep that you feel the need to plunge into the chilled water afterwards. The contrast causes release of adrenalin and stress hormones and immense invigoration that follows. It boosts your blood circulation and relieves tension and stress.

Traditional Banya facilities
Banya No.1 features: authentic Russian steam sauna, plunge pool,
hot stone and treatment rooms and a fully licensed lounge bar with traditional food & drinks.
Traditional Steam Room
A Russian Banya generates superheated steam as water is splashed onto a tonne of cast iron heated to 700°C inside an authentic brick furnace. Although the banya’s temperature (70°C) is lower than in a sauna the high levels of superheated steam cause the body to sweat profusely and then detoxify.
Icy Plunge Pool
The plunge pool is a chilling 7-10°C which counteracts the heat of the steam room. Close your eyes, breathe in, pull the rope and you are drenched in ice-cold water. The sudden change of temperature has a highly beneficial effect on the body – toxins are released, and a feeling of relief and tingling lightness follows shortly afterwards.
Bucket Showers
Alternatively Icy Plunge Pool there are wall mounted and plumbed-in oak buckets full of fresh water. The sudden change of temperature has a highly beneficial effect on the body.
Hot Stone Room
Massage Room
Experience a range of massage treatments including Russian, Deep Tissue, Remedial or Reflexology. A Russian massage relaxes the muscles. Massage therapists use a combination of kneading, stroking, rubbing and vibration techniques. The focus is on parts of the body that experience or cause pain.
Rest & Relaxation area
For your enjoyment, the cosy rest area is furnished with comfortable booths. Here you can relax with friends and enjoy freshly-made herbal tea to complete your experience. Traditional Russian food and drinks are served. You can finish it off with a cold beer and crayfish or a shot of Russian Standard vodka.

Combining authenticity and luxury, Private Banya “Taiga” offers a Russian steam room, a hot stone room, a massage room for two and a private lounge area. The steam room is unique – a traditionally constructed “Srub” or log cabin which has been used in Russian countryside banyas for centuries. A Srub is a cabin built of interlocking wood logs, requiring no other bolts or fixings to maintain its form.
Private Banya “Taiga” is ideal for corporate and private clients and is available to both members and non-members. Of course, we will continue to offer our guests a variety of thermal and exfoliating organic treatments, holistic massages including a traditional Russian massage, and a truly unforgettable Russian banya experience in an authentic log cabin.
Seating 8-10 people, Private Banya “Taiga” is the perfect venue for special occasions, corporate entertainment, unique spa experiences, hen parties, corporate events or staff days out.
Our Srub walls are made of Kelo timber logs imported from Russia’s taiga in the northern region of Karelia and it is built on site by highly skilled craftsmen using age-old traditional methods.
Kelo, also known as “suhostoy”, is a 150-200-year-old Karelian pine which remains standing upright for a further 50-60 years after it has stopped growing. It dehydrates in the arid, cold climate, giving the timber a unique silvery grey hue. Utilising the sawn edge of the wood enhances its natural splendour and the aromatic pine scent, creating a unique and amazing ambience.
